Emily Hayden announced her arrival 1/14/14 @ 8:14am weighing 7lbs 9oz and was 19 1/2 in long. I was admitted to the hospital on Monday at 4pm and was finally induced at 6pm because I was losing fluid. I had no pain until midnight when my contracts were 30 sec- a min apart. The worst part was not being able to catch my breath in between. After 2 1/2 hours of that I was only dilated to a 3 so I got an epidural. Within an hour my water broke and I was at an 8, 2 hours later at a 10. I pushed for almost 2 1/2 hours. While pushing I threw up several times :( It wasn't nearly as bad as I expected it to be. Emily had to have IV antibiotics because her white blood cell count was a little on the higher side. The first dr thought she may have an infection but all her other vitals were perfect so a second dr concluded that it was most likely due to trauma of being born. We were able to come home Thur around lunch time. We are all doing well and adjusting to a whole new schedule. She is a good baby, hardly cries at all. The dogs are really good with her and she doesn't seem to care about them. She sleeps through loud noises (Jill's barking and the vacuum). We've had several visitors so far and we look forward for all our friends and family to meet her.

Good Bye 2013
I ended last year with a post about how 2013 had the potential to be a really big year. After 2012 all we could hope for was a better 2013. The year start out rough with Dave losing his job, finding another one that wasn't working out and becoming really frustrated. He was tired of working on cars and wanted to new path. He started working for my step dad at South Suburban Heating and Air in the spring. He really likes it and doesn't miss cars at all. He still does side work on cars but is thankful to find a different path. I defended in March and was officially labeled a Dr. It was hard work but I really enjoyed writing my dissertation (Capstone). It has been really weird not having school to work on but I am enjoying the flexibility of my time. Next came the surprise of a baby. It is something that we all wanted and knew would come after I finally finished school. The pregnancy has been very easy and she should be here any day now. Just when we thought things couldn't get any better I was able to find a job in my field and quit the dermatologists office. This has been a year a many changes for us and thankfully all for the good. 2014 will start a year of even more changes where things will never be the same. I cannot even imagine what the year will bring. All I know is that Dave and I couldn't be more thankful for the opportunities presented to us this year and the support from those around us.
